Product Description
Active ingredient of the drug is a derivative of chlorophenyl butyric acid. Baclofen drug inhibits the hypertonicity of skeletal muscles, caused by lesions of spinal cord, has an inhibitory effect on skin reflexes and muscle tone. Also, the amplitude of tendon reflexes slightly falls during the drug effect.
Safety information
Indications: spasticity with multiple sclerosis, strokes, craniocerebral injuries, meningitis, spinal diseases (of infectious, degenerative, tumor and traumatic genesis), with cerebral palsy in children; alcoholism (affective disorders). It is also noted that using this drug to stop abstinence syndromes in alcoholism and in other drug addictions is possible.
Take it orally, with food. For adults and children the initial dose is 5mg (1/2 of 10mg pill) 3 times a day. The dose should be increased gradually and with caution every three days until therapeutic effect (adults – usually up to 30-75mg/day) When taking higher doses (75-100mg/day) you should use 25mg pills. The maximum daily dose is 100mg.
Usually recommended doses for children: 1-2 years – 10-20mg/day; 2-6 years – 20-30mg/day; 6-10 years – 30-60mg/day. The maximum dose for children older than 10 years is 1.5-2mg/kg
Contraindications: hypersensitivity, epilepsy, convulsions (in the anamnesis), psychosis, Parkinson’s disease, chronic renal failure.
Side effects
The most frequent are nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, asthenia, dry mouth, confusion, gait disturbance, urinary retention, constipation or diarrhea, lowering of arterial pressure, apathy;
Euphoria, depression, paresthesia, myalgia, myasthenia gravis, ataxia, tremor, nystagmus, paresis of accommodation, hallucinations, dysuria, enuresis;
Convulsions, decreased convulsive threshold.
With prolonged use – hepatic dysfunction.
Side effects are often transient, they should be distinguished from the symptoms of disease which treatment is being carried out for: with concomitant epilepsy, treatment is carried out without a cancellation of antiepileptic medicines. In patients with liver diseases and diabetes mellitus it is necessary to monitor the activity of “liver” transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, blood glucose. During treatment one should refrain from potentially dangerous activities associated with the need for increased attention and rapid mental and motional reactions.
